Greeting and Introduce yourself
Welcome to Learn Thai with Phavit! I'm sure that many foreigners will start their language learning with Greeting and Introduce yourself. Before learning our lesson, I want to tell you that Thai is not a hard language. If you love it, it will love you back and you'll learn it with fun! Chok Di Khrap!
HELLO
สวัสดีครับ /Sawatdi khrap/ and สวัสดีค่ะ /Sa-wat-di-kha/ are basic greeting in Thai.
Did you see the difference between two words?
Men have to add ครับ /khrap/ to make it sounds more polite
but women have to add ค่ะ /kha/ instead.
INTRODUCE YOURSELF
สวัสดีครับ/ค่ะ (your name) ครับ/ค่ะ
/ Sawatdi khrap/kha. (your name) kharp/kha /
= Hello, I'm...
E.g.
For men
สวัสดีครับ ยงยุทธครับ
/Sawatdi khrap. Yongyut khrap/
= Hello, I'm Yongyut.
For women
สวัสดีค่ะ มะลิค่ะ
/Sawatdi kha. Mali kha/
= Hello, I'm Mali.
In formal situation...
Hello, my name is...
For men : สวัสดีครับ ผมชื่อ(your name)ครับ
/Sawatdi khrap phom chue (your name) khrap/
For women : สวัสดีค่ะ ดิฉันชื่อ(your name)ค่ะ
/Sawatdi kha dichan chue (your name) kha/
E.g.
For men : สวัสดีครับ ผมชื่อยงยุทธครับ
/Sawatdi khrap phom chue Yongyut khrap/
= Hello, my name is Yongyut.
For women : สวัสดีค่ะ ดิฉันชื่อมะลิค่ะ
/Sawatdi kha dichan chue Mali kha/
= Hello, my name is Mali.
So, if you come to Thailand. Try to say Sawatdi and introduce yourself with Thai people. And you will find a truly friendship. (-^〇^-)
NICE TO MEET YOU
Nice to meet you in Thai is ยินดีที่ได้รู้จัก /Yindi thi dai ruchak/ literally means "Glad to know you".
GOOD MORNING, GOOD NIGHT
อรุณสวัสดิ์ /arunsawat/ = Good morning
ราตรีสวัสดิ์ /ratrisawat/ = Good night
GOOD BYE
ลาก่อน /la kon/ = Good bye
Look like you aren't going to meet each other again.
บ๊ายบาย /bai bai/ = Good bye
More common usage, more casual way.
SEE YA!
แล้วพบกันใหม่ /laeo phop kan mai/ = See you later
พรุ่งนี้เจอกัน /phrungni choe kan/ = See you tomorrow
